CASEing myself

You know when you see a lovely creation somewhere and just have to make something similar? You get inspired by someone else's creativity and the next thing you know you've made your own version?

Well, I was inspired by myself LOL.

I was reading a blog or something (it's hard to remember where I've been on the internet some days) about people having a hard time using certain colours - a lot of people are stumped by Stampin' Up!s "Bold Brights" colour family, for instance. Yes, they're bold, and they sure are bright but that doesn't make them scary.

To test this theory, I took this design from a few months ago and challenged myself to remake it BOLD!

The colours in this photo are a little off ... the Summer Sun layer looks almost orange to me. And technically it's not from the Bold Brights range, but I don't have YoYo Yellow ink, and I like my inks/cardstocks to match (because with Stampin' Up!, that's what they do).

It came out BRIGHT.

I like it. This stamp set is a really good one, and with the variety of stamps in the set (including a present and a balloon) you can make a lot of very different cards without getting sick of it.

And while I was making my bright experiment, DD10 asked if I would make her friend a birthday card using the same design. Of course I said yes (before she had a chance to change her mind). DD chose the colours ...

Again, super-bright, but it turned out to be a really fun card!

The little purse from my post the other day (for the same friend) was made to in these colours as well, to match.

More from Liz

At our recenty Girls Nite at Deb's house, Liz again got into her creative streak ... and she has been so kind as to allow me to photograph her creations to share on my blog; because she's using current Stampin' Up! stuff, they all qualify to be shown here!

This card is a case of the one I made at our last GNI, however Liz has used only the current "In Colors" (which are only available until the expiry of our current catalogue, so if you like them, get in quick!).

Supplies used:

Stamp sets: Ocean Commotion
Ink: Groovy Guava, Purely Pomegranate, Wild Wasabi
Cardstock: Groovy Guava, Wild Wasabi, Whisper White

Other: Scallop Edge Punch, Stampin' Dimensionals

I like this one! In fact, I'm planning on CASEing it myself! Again, Liz has only used "In Colours", and don't they work well together!

Supplies used:

Stamp sets: Big Bold Birthday, Warm Words
Ink: Wild Wasabi, Groovy Guava, Purely Pomegranate
Cardstock: Groovy Guava, Purely Pomegranate, Whisper White

A birthday card with a definitely masculine colour scheme.

Supplies used:

Stamp sets: Big Bold Birthday
Ink: River Rock, Chocolate Chip, Soft Sky
Cardstock: River Rock, Chocolate Chip, Blue Bayou, Whisper White

And lastly a card using my personal favourite Eastern Blooms. At first I had this up the wrong way, but Liz had designed it so the message is sideways at the top of the card, not the right way up at the bottom of the card. And Liz has used her scrap from the scallop edge punch, just like I've been doing! Waste not, want not.

Supplies used:

Stamp sets: Easter Blooms
Ink: River Rock

Cardstock: River Rock, Always Artichoke, Blue Bayou, Whisper White

Other: Scallop Edge Punch, Scallop Circle Punch

Thank you again, Liz, for allowing me to share these.

Birthday variety

Okay, so it was DH's birthday a few days ago. During a Girl's Nite at Deb's house on Sunday (waves to Deb, thank you for letting us clutter up your workroom!) I put together this card using Big Bold Birthday, which I picked up during the 20% off birthday celebrations last October (gotta love some of the specials Stampin' Up! has come up with in the past few months).

If you look closely you can see the detail of three punched circles in Certainly Celery, stuck onto the Certainly Celery background. I just wanted some texture there. It worked.

And look! There's that leftover 5mm strip from using the Scallop Edge Punch on the So Saffron border. What a surprise!

Supplies used:

Stamp sets: Big Bold Birthday
Ink: So Saffron, Chocolate Chip, Regal Rose
Cardstock: Certainly Celery, So Saffron, Whisper White

Other: Stampin' Write Markers in Certainly Celery and So Saffron, 1-3/4 inch Circle Punch, Scallop Edge Punch

Anyway, I liked it, but it's not exactly "blokey", now is it? So I did it again the next night in somewhat more masculine colours, and I'm very happy with the result.

Just to make the point that this actually is a birthday card, I used a little piece of text from Fast & Fun Notes, inking only the words "Happy Birthday" and stamping them at the top right of the card. Just in case the words "Happy Birthday" all over the cupcake base wasn't enough, you know?

I think he liked it. I'm still pinching it back so it can go in my samples folder though *g*.

Supplies used:

Stamp sets: Big Bold Birthday, Fun & Fast Notes
Ink: More Mustard, Close to Cocoa
Cardstock: Not Quite Navy, More Mustard, Whisper White

Other: Stampin' Write Markers in Not Quite Navy and Summer Sun, 1-3/4 inch Circle Punch, Scallop Edge Punch, Stamp-a-ma-jig

Make A Wish

Thanks to this month's birthday celebrations, I bought myself this cute set ... I've been eyeing it off for a while, and decided the price was just too good to knock back *g*.

As you might be able to tell, the cupcake is actually two separate stamps, so you can ink them in complimentary colours and make your own custom cake.

Together with a balloon stamp, two phrase stamps, a candle, a party blower (what do you call those things?), a present, a bow (the present and bow are two separate stamps), some dots, some other dots, a little flower and a little heart - thirteen stamps in all - the whole set represents excellent value at the current special price of $43.16 (when you spent a minimum of $20 on other catalogue merchandise) (not including shipping).

If you would like more information on this month's specials, please email me for details. Don't forget that I can arrange shipping direct to you no matter where you are in Australia!
