Something different

You may (or may not - it's not like it comes up in conversation a lot) know that I am a bit of a movie fan, and in the past few years have enjoyed discovering silent pictures with an emphasis on the comedies of the 1920s.  My favourite old movie star is Buster Keaton, but Harold Lloyd comes a close second.  Imagine my delight when my friend Pauline pointed out that the Astor Theatre was running a double feature of Harold Lloyd comedies (Safety Last, and Speedy) that coincidentally was due to screen right before my birthday.

So I got a birthday outing to see two movies made in the 1920s, in an awesome cinema that was first opened in 1936, with a crowd of people who were enjoying the experience as much as I was - best birthday ever!

And to top it (and bring this back on topic), off this is the birthday card Pauline made for me:

That guy there?  Harold Lloyd, hanging from the hands of a clock just like he did in Safety Last.

The relevance to Stampin' Up!?  Pauline used the Clockworks set to create the clock faces.

Love this card so much!  Thanks Pauline!

A little sneak peek

As I've probably mentioned before, one of the (many) advantages of being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator is the opportunity to get your hands on stuff before it is available to the general population - and attending a convention or event is a perfect example of this perk :-)

Here's a quick sample of a card made with a couple of the stamp sets we were given at the Convention in Brisbane this year ...

The greeting comes from a set called "Hello, Lovely" - the images in this set are a mix of graphic elements and a few greetings that are a little 50s retro.  The grungy and splatty stamps are from another new set called "Gorgeous Grunge" - I have to admit when I saw this set, it didn't grab me, but after using it and seeing samples of what it can do, it has grown on me :-)

Here's a closeup of part of the splat and a little bit of the new Washi Tape - woo hoo!

Finally, you may or may not recognise the blue in this picture ... those with long memories might remember a former In Color called Soft Sky?  Well, it's back!  And it fits perfectly into its new home with the Subtles colour range.

Little brown birdie...

This card came about because I had a stray scrap of Pool Party cardstock in my paper stash which I had stamped and distressed and then decided not to use.  While it wasn't right for the original project (which I posted the other day), it was exactly what I needed to go with this Very Vanilla/Crumb Cake combination.

Clockworks

Continuing my love affair with Pool Party ... another card which started life at SERS the other day, hence the limited colour palette.  I only took a few inkpads with me, so once I'd stamped the focal image and the strip of Wisteria Wonder, the whole thing ground to a halt.  Luckily I finished it off at home, once I got back to my Big Shot (I knew going to a craft afternoon without it was a bad idea).  Love that Chevron embossing folder!

Missing in Action

Well, where have I been lately?  Mostly just at home, loafing about - and I haven't even been stamping!  I know!  This time of year I seem to find I need to take a few weeks off to recharge after making all those Christmas cards (why do I do it each year?  Sadly, it's all for the money LOL), and my mojo takes a holiday as well :-)

But I'm back.  Sort of.  I motivated myself the other night to get out a new stamp set to add the finishing touch to this card:

I've seen a few cards with this "circle-y" theme online lately, and wanted to give it a go for myself.  I like the extra dimension given by popping up and punching out a circle (shown here with the little four point flower  from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack) gives the card,

The Pool Party circles have been stamped with Whisper White Craft Ink, which in Real Life (ie. I couldn't catch the effect with the camera) seem to glow... I love using Whisper White Craft on light coloured cardstock - the effect is always interesting.

And the new stamp set?  The "Just Because" greeting from the set Vintage Verses, only available from tomorrow until March 22, and only available FREE with a $100 purchase.  Yep, it's nearly Sale-A-Bration time again... more information for you tomorrow
