Goodbye Post #2

Here I am again with another tribute to retiring stamp sets.

This time around it's Pocket Silhouettes ... oh, how I have loved this little set!  It is surprisingly inexpensive, and while you might just look at it and see just four little stamps with weeds on them :-) in reality they could be anything.

Here's a couple of my favourites:

If you click on the pictures you will be taken to the original post which should outline the materials used on each card.  Keep in mind that some of these are several years old and as such, quite a bit of the Stampin' Up! product used has long since retired.

Old Favourites

It's been a while since either of these stamp sets came out for a play ... Baroque Motifs, with its gorgeous swirl, really needs more air time, and Pocket Silhouettes with its cute little bunches of leaves.  I was inspired by this card over at Splitcoast Stampers (sooo much inspiration) and as always, ended up with something that wasn't much at all like the original - or, for that matter, anything much like what I had pictured in my head as I was creating *sigh*.

Now, can you see the mistake?  Here's a closeup for you ... I could have kicked myself when I realised what I'd done, but by that time it was all glued together and I didn't have the patience to try to dismantle it. In my defense, the light in my dining room/stamping area can be kind of dodgy and it was kind of late by the time I got to this step.  I knew I should have stuck with Rhinestone Jewels.

I wish I'd taken the time to curl the little flowers up a tad, as well, to give the whole thing a little more dimension.  Next time :-)

Yet More Butterflies

I am still having fun with my Beautiful Wings Embosslit - it is just so handy for adding that finishing touch to a floral card!

Here is something I made recently when some friends came around to stamp. I was inspired by a card I saw ... somewhere ... I think it might have been on the Stampin' Up demonstrators' forum.

I have stamped the grass from Inspired by Nature (note to self - must use that set more often) on the base card. Then I sponged a piece of Whisper White first with Pink Pirouette and then with Concord Crush and overstamped the weeds from Pocket Silhouettes in Basic Black. The butterflies from the embosslit completed the picture. And, oops, I believe I forgot to add rhinestones! Better fix that up at some stage!

So there you have it - quick and simple, and quite pretty as well!

Blue Butterfly

Another monochromatic card I put together recently ... this was inspired by a card I saw on Splitcoast Stampers; unfortunately I can't remember which one it was :-(

The background which you can just see peeping out from behind the Not Quite Navy layer is stamped with French Filigree - such a pretty background stamp!

Ink: Baja Breeze
Cardstock: Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy, Very Vanilla

Simple Card

Here's something a made a while back, but never quite got around to photographing for the blog. It was super quick and easy to make, I have to say.

The flowers are just punched out of Pretty in Pink and Melon Mambo cardstock and layerd onto the branches of the little stamp from Pocket Silhouettes. I have also used the same stamp a couple of times at the bottom left of the base card and the pink layer to add some interest there.

Another Kraft Card

I know it's not a "real" colour (although that will change come September and the new catalogue, when the new colour family of "Neutrals" will be created), but I'm loving Kraft at the moment.

Combined with the new colours Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry to spice it up, you have to admit it makes a great background.

How do you like this - so simple, yet totally effective. I wish I could remember where I saw the original which inspired this (if I find the link I promise to post it).

21/6/10: Edited to add: Found the original! It's here - now you can see why I had to make this card *g*.

Dynamic Duos

Stampin' Up! colours aren't selected randomly ... they are designed specifically to coordinate with each other, and this is most obvious in the colour pairings knows as "Dynamic Duos". This means that two colours are the same, simply a different shade, as shown here with Pumpkin Pie and Apricot Appeal.

It's a handy way of creating a card when you're a bit short on colour inspiration but want to ensure the finished result will please the eye.

I completely CASEd the layout of this card from one at Splitcoast stampers (kudos to the originator, I just wish I knew the link so I could show you), but changed the colours from green to orange.

Sadly the photo doesn't do the card justice ... the colours are more vibrant in real life and the whole thing isn't quite as blurry (poor photography skills showing through there *g*).

Pocket Silhouettes

I finally caved and bought this set ... it's very sweet and quite reasonably priced too (yes, that was me trying to sell you something *g*).

I'm sure I had a million ideas about what to use these stamps for before I bought them, but as soon as I them all put together I couldn't remember a thing! So to get the inspiration going, I CASEd this card, changing out the layout a little and using slightly different colours.

I'm very happy with the result!

Little things ...

This is a stamp set I haven't bought yet, and I'm not completely sure why! It is certainly my "style" if I could be said to have one. I think I simply forgot to add it to my initial order from this catalogue. Anyway, I borrowed it from Gail the other night to see it in action so to speak, and was pretty happy with the results.

By the way, the set consists of six stamps, four of which are small plant silhouettes, and two small phrases.

Firstly this, which is actually a CASE from something Liz was making ... I stole, uh, borrowed her idea, and dressed it up a little with the Eyelet Border Punch.

The stamps in this set are quite small, but this can be very effective in some cases as shown here. I tossed up whether to add something to the top half of the card but decided I liked it as it is.

Supplies used:

Stamp set/s: Pocket Silhouettes

Ink: Regal Rose, Rose Red
Cardstock: Regal Rose, Whisper White, Rose Red
Other: Large Oval Punch, Small Oval Punch, Eyelet Border Punch

The second card came out quite well, I thought. This time I stamped a couple of the silhouette stamps a number of times to create a bit of a garden. Again, the top part of the card has been intentionally left blank, as I kind of like the unbalanced look.
