for Sandra

This is almost unheard of ... the other day I made an actual card to send to an actual person!  Mostly the cards I make are used as samples, and eventually (once the featured items retire) end up in a box through which my daughter digs each time she needs a birthday card quickly.

But this time I had a recipient in mind, made the card (based on this one - isn't it gorgeous?) and remembered to mail it!  I could have used an old sample card for her, but that just didn't seem right for the occasion.

So here you have it ... my card for Sandra.  I hope it made her happy :-)

Tips for anyone attempting this ... firstly, make sure your square punch is sharp *sigh*.  Secondly, lay all your squares out and work out exactly what you want the card front to look like - don't leave it to chance like, perhaps, might have happened here.  Lastly, have some sort of guide on hand so that you can keep the squares lined up evenly.

Improvements to the Online Store

If you've checked out the Online Store recently, you may have noticed a few changes going on ... here's a quick summary:

  • There is no longer a two-tiered pricing system - each product has one price, and that's the price you pay.
  • You will need to select a demonstrator (if you haven't already).
  • You can now shop using a Guest Account if you prefer not to create a profile for your purchases.  You will still need to select a demonstrator (and I hope it's me!) and have the option to be contacted or not, as you wish.
  • You can now easily save bag contents. Also, when adding items to your bag, you can choose to go directly to the bag or continue shopping. They have also included a progress bar to guide you through the ordering process.
  • Additional images are available for products.
  • You can sort the list from oldest to newest, or the other way round - perfect to see what's been added since the last time you looked (especially handy for MDS downloads, with new additions every week)
  • Sale prices are now clearly marked.
  • There are some hostess code updates.
  • You can state whether or not you want to be contacted by a demonstrator after your order - there is no requirement to check the box if you don't wish anyone to get in touch.

**NEW** Thinlits Card Dies

Ever wanted to make a swing card, but been daunted by all the messing around with measurements and precision cutting?  Well, have I got the solution for you!

Introducing the new Thinlits Card Dies - two different styles to choose from.  Each comes with the Thinlit to create the card base, as well as an assortment of dies to accessorise your creation.

Circle Thinlits Card Die $55.95

Label Thinlits Card Die $55.95

The card dies will also co-ordinate with many stamp sets in the catalogues - the Circle card die coordinates with Worth The Wait and Five Way Flower, while the Label card die coordinates with the Happy Day stamp set.  Both dies can also work well with the Oh Hello, Yippee Skippee, Really Good Greetings and Regarding Dahlias stamp sets.  And, what a remarkable coincidence - Happy  Day, Oh Hello and Yippee Skippee are currently on special for 25% off (until October 28 only).

Not sure how to use these new card dies?  Stampin' Up! have provided a handy-dandy YouTube video to walk you through using your new Thinlits card dies - take a look to see just how easy it will be to make your own swing cards using this new product.

I will be ordering mine in a week or two - can't wait to have a play with them!  Contact me or check out the Online Store (search for Thinlits) to order yours today!

One Week Only! 25 stamp sets are 25% off!

The specials are coming thick and fast over at Stampin' Up! HQ lately ... and because October is the official 25th birthday month, it's been pretty busy around here :-)

The latest special is one you'll love - for the next week, from October 22 through to 28, you will find that 25 stamp sets are available at 25% off the original price.  Just follow this link to my Online Store, click the 25% off 25 Stamp Sets heading and you can see everything that's available in this offer.

The sets on special are a mix of stamp images, occasions and styles, so have a look and see if any of them take your fancy, then either shop online or contact me to place your order.

Remember, this offer is only running until October 28, so don't miss out!

NEW! My Library for My Digital Studio™

Those of you who are now using My Digital Studio™ would know it can be tricky to keep track of what you've bought, not to mention all the great downloads you want in the future.

Well, there is now a solution!  Stampin' Up! has released an app (currently only for the iPad and iPad Mini, although I am told that a version for other devices is in the works) where you can keep track of your purchases, make a wish list, browse downloads and see the latest releases.  You can even link directly to the Online Store to shop for new downloads!

I downloaded the app the other night to have a play, and found it easy to use and very attractively designed as well :-)

You can't actually link your copy of MDS to the app, so you will have to manually search and add your purchases to your own list, but it's not at all difficult and is actually kind of fun to see what you already own - I found myself seeing my older downloads as if for the first time and thinking of ideas to use them as I went through the catalogue.

The app is free, too, so what's stopping you from downloading it today?  Even if you don't have MDS, you can get the app and browse the great digital content - many of the files available can be used in any graphics program.

As always, contact me if you want more information about My Digital Studio™, the My Library for My Digital Studio app or anything Stampin' Up!, just drop me an email.

All Dressed Up

My dear friend Anne-Marie had a birthday recently, and here is the card I made for her to help her celebrate.  Very little stamping involved, but somehow a table (and kitchen bench) full of cardstock, dies, accessories, and general stamping mess went into the creation of this.

It didn't really come out as I had pictured it (do these things ever?) but I was pretty happy with the result.  And I can't believe it's taken me two months to get around to matching Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay with Elegant Eggplant!  Green and purple - what an awesome colour combination :-)

Faux Washi Tape

You may have noticed the latest thing in stamping and scrapbooking is washi tape (well, it's been around before - but it's back!)

You can buy rolls of the stuff (Stampin' Up! has a small range, and I keep forgetting to dig mine out to play with it), but you can also buy this ...

Yep, faux washi tape :-)

Naturally I had to have this set, and it's going to be a lot of fun to play with.  The first thing I did was stamp some faux tape across the back of an envelope I was mailing for my husband (I have no idea if the recipient appreciated it, but it amused me).

Then I made this ...

Using my new favourite birthday stamp (from the Sketched Birthday set) - I love this one because it fits with the Bitty Banners framelits, and they are a snap to use with my beloved Magnetic Platform for my Big Shot.

Still here ... still stamping!

It's been very quiet around here lately - and I have pretty much no excuse.  So without further ado, here's a card I made at Stamp Club a while back - just messing around with some of the limited inks, papers and stamps that I had on hand at the time.

I've used the chevron oval from Oh Hello, and the flower from the same set, inked using markers and trimmed closely.  The background is En Francais, stamped in the new Smoky Slate.

Cardstock:  Smoky Slate, Crisp Cantaloupe, Whisper White
Ink: Smoky Slate, Crisp Cantaloupe
Accessories:  Raspberry Ripple and Gumball Green Stampin' Write Markers

And here's a similar card, with Raspberry Ripple instead of Crisp Cantaloupe.  Looks like I need a little more practice with the Stampamajig to get those greetings straight :-)

More Mosaics

I really like this stamp set - can you tell?

Another card inspired by one found via Pinterest ... I might even add some bling to it as in the original :-)

It was a little fiddly getting the positioning just right, but I'm pretty happy with how it came out.  I've embossed the bottom part of the card and added a stamped strip to cover the edge of the embossing.

The stripes stamp on the Bermuda Bay strip of cardstock is from the set Gorgeous Grunge, which is one of those sets that probably doesn't grab you on first sight, but once you see what it can do, the possibilities are endless :-) (do a Google Images search for Gorgeous Grunge Stampin Up to see what I mean).

Mosaic Madness

Something I "whipped up" during stamp club yesterday ... heavily inspired by this card I found on Pinterest the other day...

I had limited room to take a bunch of different supplies (I'm not a good travelling stamper) so decided to experiment with the new In Colors, represented here by Coastal Cabana, Baked Brown Sugar and Strawberry Slush - I love this year's new colours!

This card also demonstrates the use of the Stampamajig, both in placing the smaller elements on the embossed cardstock, and also (although it's mostly hidden by the greeting) the stamped strip of Coastal Cabana cardstock.

Something different

You may (or may not - it's not like it comes up in conversation a lot) know that I am a bit of a movie fan, and in the past few years have enjoyed discovering silent pictures with an emphasis on the comedies of the 1920s.  My favourite old movie star is Buster Keaton, but Harold Lloyd comes a close second.  Imagine my delight when my friend Pauline pointed out that the Astor Theatre was running a double feature of Harold Lloyd comedies (Safety Last, and Speedy) that coincidentally was due to screen right before my birthday.

So I got a birthday outing to see two movies made in the 1920s, in an awesome cinema that was first opened in 1936, with a crowd of people who were enjoying the experience as much as I was - best birthday ever!

And to top it (and bring this back on topic), off this is the birthday card Pauline made for me:

That guy there?  Harold Lloyd, hanging from the hands of a clock just like he did in Safety Last.

The relevance to Stampin' Up!?  Pauline used the Clockworks set to create the clock faces.

Love this card so much!  Thanks Pauline!

Magnetic Big Shot Platform ... best thing ever?

The title of this post might seem a little over-enthusiastic - perhaps the Magnetic Platform isn't the best thing ever, but it's certainly going to be a big help with all the framelits I have been accumulating :-)

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this beaut new item (now available in the NEW 2013-14 Annual Catalogue!), here's the lowdown...

My Magnetic Platform, clinging tight to that strip of cardstock and the Bitty Banners Framelits

In the past, when using your Framelits, you laid down your Big Shot Multi Purpose Platform, with all tabs closed, then a Cutting Mat, then your cardstock, then your Framelit, then another Cutting Mat, crossed your fingers and hoped that the Framelit stayed in one place while you cranked the whole lot through the Big Shot.

It was a bit touch and go, and while it wasn't so bad if you were just cutting random shapes, it could be tricky if you stamped your cardstock and were using the framelit to cut out the stamped image.  You could use post-it notes to hold the framelit down, but there was no guarantee that the slippery little thing wouldn't move just a fraction - enough to ruin your cardstock.

But if you happen to be the proud owner of a Magnetic Platform, your worries are over!

You create your "sandwich" as normal, but instead of using the Multi Purpose Platform you use your Magnetic Platform (no tabs to worry about).  This gadget has some heavy duty magnets in it (so much so that I would be wary of putting it near a computer, TV or even a pacemaker!) which will cause the framelit to cling even through a Cutting Mat and a layer of cardstock.  Trust me, once you have your framelit in place over your cardstock, it is a snap to make sure it's in exactly the right place - and it's not likely to move!

Here's a close up of my Platform, with a strip of cardstock and some little framelits.  Remember that they will be placed cutting edge *down*, which is just as well because they would be pretty hard to peel off otherwise.

I have read that you're better off using relatively flat Cutting Plates, although my nasty old "well loved" ones worked just fine when I was experimenting the other night.  Better make sure I have my newer set to hand, just in case.

And remember, this will not replace your Multi Purpose platform ... the Magnet Platform is only for use with framelits, not the many other cutting tools available for the Big Shot.

New Colours!

There's nothing I like more than having some new colours to play around with - so right now I'm pretty happy, with the new In Colors from Stampin' Up! now available, as well as three new Core Colours.

The card shown here is made with a Smoky Slate base (new addition to the Neutrals range), a layer of Strawberry Slush (one of the new 2013-15 In Colors) embossed with the new Beautifully Baroque Embossing Folder and some additional elements in Bermuda Bay (new to the Brights range).  Also, if you look carefully, you can see a peek of Crushed Curry (new in the Regals range) - I figured that the colour scheme needed a lift :-)

Here's a closeup of the little birthday banner - with a kink in it just to look a little special :-)
